Wednesday Catch-Up 18th November 2015

Every Wednesday we are linking up with WWW Wednesday, What Are You Reading Wednesday? and Waiting on Wednesday. WWW Wednesday is hosted at Taking on a World of Words and asks 3 questions: What are you currently reading?, What did you recently finish reading? What do you think you'll read next?
What Are You Reading Wednesday are hosted on It's a Reading Thing and asks;
1. What's the name of your current read?
2. Go to page 34 or 34% in your e-book and share one complete sentence.
3. Would you like to live in the world that exists within your book? Why or why not?
Waiting on Wednesday is hosted at Breaking the Spine and is a chance to show what upcoming releases you are excited for! Each week we will take it in turns to choose a book for Waiting on Wednesday and this week was Ann's turn! You can click any of the pictures in the post to go to that books goodreads page.

Ann:

Currently Reading:
The Turn of the ScrewBloodlines (Bloodlines, #1)Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)
I am still reading The Turn of the Screw which is my Classic for this month. I am actually about to give up on Bloodlines since I am not getting anywhere with it and I think I'm just not in the mood for it at the moment. Clare has just finished Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff and she loved it so I am excited to be starting this.
"Ezra Mason: (Laughter.) Nice one, chum. You know, you're the first shrink I ever met with a sense of ...... Wait, you serious?" - Page 34, Illuminae
I would not like to live in the world of Illuminae because everyone keeps dying. It just seems like a very dangerous place to be.
Recently Finished:
Texts from Jane Eyre: And Other Conversations with Your Favorite Literary Characters
I really enjoyed Texts from Jane Eyre by Mallory Ortberg, I hadn't read a lot of the books she was writing about but I still found it very funny.
Planning to Read Next:
Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)
I have been wanting to read Throne of Glass for a while so I definitely want to read it once I have finished Illuminae!

Clare:

Currently Reading:
Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4)The Hunchback of Notre-Dame
I have just started Winter by Marissa Meyer which I am loving so far. I have really enjoyed this series and I am excited to read this (incredibly long) finale. I am also currently reading The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo. I didn't read any of it this week as I didn't take it with me when I went away but I am glad to be able to get back into it.
"She dug a wrench from her pocket and set to loosening the nuts on either side of the cylinder. As soon as it was free, the ship fell eerily quiet, like a humming that became noticeable only after it stopped." - Page 34, Winter
I am not sure if I would want to live in the world of Winter. Apart from the Lunar colony and the technology it's not hugely different from here and now. But I think I'd love to meet all the characters so I am going to say I would like to live there.
Recently Finished:
Far From YouHotel RubyWorld After (Penryn & the End of Days, #2)End of Days (Penryn and the End of Days, #3)
Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)Cress (The Lunar Chronicles, #3)Fairest (The Lunar Chronicles, #3.5)
When I left to visit my friend last Wednesday I was reading Far From You by Tess Sharpe. Ultimately I think this just wasn't the book for me, my friend did want to read it though so I left it with her and hopefully she will like it. On the train to visit my brother I then read Hotel Ruby by Suzanne Young which I did enjoy but I found a bit disappointing given how much I enjoyed her Program duology. I will have a full review up for this tomorrow. I also read World After and End of Days by Susan Ee (it was a really long train journey!) both of which I really enjoyed. I liked how the series ended and I really enjoyed all the bits with Pennryn's sister. I think Pennryn herself really grew as a character. I then read Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff and was completely blown away. I will have a full review up for this on Friday, it was amazing and I highly recommend it. And then, because Winter had arrived, I caught up with the series by reading Cress and Fairest. I did enjoy Cress more than Fairest. Whilst Fairest was an interesting insight into Levana it didn't feel as engaging as the rest of the series is to me.
Planning to Read Next:
An Inheritance of AshesSoundlessSnow Like Ashes (Snow Like Ashes, #1)The Burning Sky (The Elemental Trilogy, #1)November 9The Widow's Confession
I had planned for November to be a Fantasy month for me which has kind of not happened. But I have a lot of great looking fantasy on my shelves that I would love to read soon. And Soundless has just arrived which makes this the perfect time to read them. I am perhaps most excited for The Burning Sky. I also need to read November 9, I don't know what exactly this is about but that's the way I prefer to read Colleen Hoover books. I am also hoping to read The Widow's Confession by Sophia Tobin which is released tomorrow. I really enjoyed her first book and am excited for this one.

Waiting on Wednesday:

The Glittering Court (The Glittering Court, #1)
Big and sweeping, spanning the refined palaces of Osfrid to the gold dust and untamed forests of Adoria, The Glittering Court tells the story of Adelaide, an Osfridian countess who poses as her servant to escape an arranged marriage and start a new life in Adoria, the New World. But to do that, she must join the Glittering Court.
Both a school and a business venture, the Glittering Court is designed to transform impoverished girls into upper-class ladies capable of arranging powerful and wealthy marriages in the New World. Adelaide naturally excels in her training and even makes a few friends: the fiery former laundress Tamsin and the beautiful Sirminican refugee Mira. She manages to keep her true identity hidden from all but one: the intriguing Cedric Thorn, son of the wealthy proprietor of the Glittering Court.
When Adelaide discovers that Cedric is hiding a dangerous secret of his own, together, they hatch a scheme to make the best of Adelaide’s deception. Complications soon arise—first, as they cross the treacherous seas from Osfrid to Adoria, and later, when Adelaide catches the attention of a powerful governor.
But no complication will prove quite as daunting as the potent attraction simmering between Adelaide and Cedric. An attraction that, if acted on, would scandalize the Glittering Court and make them both outcasts in wild, vastly uncharted lands. . . .

Ann: I have loved her Vampire Academy books so I am definitely excited for this. It is due for release on 5th April 2016.

  1. I can imagine that Texts from Jane Eyre is very funny!
Argh! Must read Illuminae asap... it's on my Christmas list, but everyone loves it so much I might cave and get it early.
I don't think I'm going to bother with Fairest. If it doesn't feature Captain Thorne, where's the incentive? ;-)
Thanks for visiting my WWW post and happy reading.

    1. I loved it, but I've read a lot of the books it mentions where Ann hasn't so it's interesting to know it's still funny without knowing much about what it's referencing! Illuminae was amazing. I went in with fairly high hopes but it still exceeded them! Captain Thorne is clearly the best thing about the series! And I don't think he was even born for most of Fairest so definitely not featured! :)

  2. Such a varied selection, most of which I'm not aware of!

    1. I can't really decide what kind of reading mood I am in at the moment so I am just reading all genres and I think Ann is doing pretty much the same!

  3. Great selection of books, I haven't heard of a lot of them but it's always good to find out about books and authors I've not heard of before. I do love the sound of The Widow's Confession so I might look out for that on Amazon.

    1. That's one of my favourite things about Wednesday - discovering new books! The Widow's Confession should be great, I really liked her first book.

  4. I've been following Jay Kristoff on Twitter for a while now and keep thinking I need to get around to reading Illuminae. I've got Soundless on my TBR as well; I've never read any of Richelle Mead's other stuff, but this one sounds quite interesting.

    1. I've heard very mixed things about Soundless but I loved her Vampire Academy series so I am hopeful. It's way shorter than I had expected though! And Illuminae was amazing. It's 600 pages long and I read it in one sitting! So very engrossing!
